Oh, why did he get wind up into this? It started a couple of days ago. He was in his shop, talking to a customer when Arien entered. immediately, he left the man to go to her, asking how her wrist was, how she felt, why she was coming to see him this afternoon. She quickly replied she was fine before reminding him of his client. Embarrassed, he dealt with him quickly. He rarely seemed shy in his shop but now he was, a little ashamed to have changed so drastically of nature in front of a customer. Once the man out, he closed the shop and bought some pastries at the bakery that was his neighbor. He went with her to the backstore and started talking with her.
There, quiet, she explained she had been told to take some vacations. Keann couldn't agree more. She said she'd go see her parents. A very good idea, for sure. It was rare she was seeing them, they were not living in Minas Tirith. Then she said she couldn't go alone. There again, Keann couldn't agree more. It was already dangerous the possibility of falling on some cutthroats but now that there were those orcs. A man was a best companion. But when she told him she thought of him as a companion, he nearly choke. Him!? He couldn't think of worse companion. He was shy, so unable to deal with scoundrels. And if they'd have to encounter any, he bet he would stumble upon his own two feet. He still told her he got orders 'til the end of the week and would answer her then.
He was hoping to find an excuse during that week to avoid going. Not that he didn't want to, true he was scared to hell to meet her family but it was more the fact he wouldn't be very good to ensure her safety that made him hesitate. However, he didn't count on his father living with him that refused him to leave her alone. "Make her yours during the journey." he said. Keann blushed more than he ever did. Make her his, as if it was easy! He saw what she was doing to those trying to make her theirs. She was far too independent. And even if they were to end up together, and that said with a capital if, Keann couldn't bring himself to make her close her shop and take care of the house, his father and any possible children. No, she was a free bird and he couldn't put her in a cage.
At the end of the week though he had no choice but to accompany her. Hopefully the road was calm, they met only a merchant or two riding towards Minas Tirith. They arrived at her parents' house in the night.
Her parents proposed them a bath. Keann passed, saying he simply wanted to go to bed, or at least tried to say that while not stuttering. The mere idea of going to the bath or out of it and find Arien almost naked, or worse end up in the bath with her, was far too scary for him. He was definitely not ready to see that. He tried to sleep after they showed him his room. But he was wondering what could their parents think of him. Were they thinking they formed a couple? They must have been a little disappointed then. He was tall yes, but not muscular, or strong, or serious, or protective - at least not the way they might want ... he was just a simple goldsmith. At least his job was giving him money. He finally managed to sleep after an hour or two thinking in his bed.
In the morning, he found a bath ready for his use. He took one before dressing up. His hair were still wet a little when he walked down to the dining room/kitchen part of the house.

Ah, it felt good returning home! She had finally agreed to take vacations and go visit her family; it had been a good thing to do. It felt good returning home and here they were, yes they…she had managed to drag Keann along with her. She was happy he had finally agreed, even if he seemed completely horrified by the situation. This made her wonder why for a moment but in the end, found all of this amusing.
She began wondering about what her family would think of him; her twin siblings would probably tease him around while her mother would probably be happy to see that she brought a ‘man’ in the house. It would have to be feared… They arrived in the village at night and the traveling didn’t take long. A few people who recognized her greeted her and either smile or gave funny looks to Keann, not expecting her to be the one to bring a man first; for she had that reputation of being a ‘tomboy’.
Soon they would arrive at her house, which made her smile happily. She was greeted by her mother, her siblings were off to bed, exhausted from the hard day of working in the garden and farm. They were offered a bath, which she gladly took; she felt all dirty and she didn’t like the feeling at all. She bathed for a hour, her mother helping her along and chatting with her. Then she wore a nightdress and both of them went to bed to get strength for the next morning.
Arien was already in the kitchen next morning, dressed in one of her pretty dress, one that her mother made for her and gave her last night. “Hey sister, how do you think I look in it?” Asked Olamwen with a grin as she had just changed into the dress that Arien made for her. “Lovely dear.” her mother assured her. “Green suits you well.” she added. Arien grinned and nodded in agreement. Her sister went back up in her room, to finish grooming and her brother, lazy often, wasn’t in the kitchen just yet.
Arien noticed Keann walking in and she smiled at her friend. “Good morning.” she mused happily as her mother was pulling her hair up. Mothers were always the best when it came to this stuff. “Good morning.” added her mother, smiling warmly at the man, she was so glad that Arien had brought one home.

Keann found himself unable to reply to the good mornings the two ladies gave him. The scene before his eyes was just too strange for him. Arien, being groomed. Besides the fact she was making and wearing dresses, Arien was rarely acting lady-like. So seeing her let her mother comb her hair was weird to him. But she seemed used to it and not bothered about that fact, so why should Keann complain about it.
He nodded to the two women as he sat at the table. There, he looked at them. Arien seemed happy, very happy. Seeing her family really was a good thing. Keann hadn't seen her like that in a while. He looked at her mother. She was really beautiful, tall with short hair. Rare were the women having short hair but Keann had to say it suited her well. Her eyes and smile were warm. She certainly gave her children a lot of love. Something in her smile calmed Keann. He still had the feeling she was getting the wrong idea about him. But he knew she would not hate him for that.
Keann couldn't see Arien's siblings. He knew for the twins though he hadn't seen them when they arrived this morning. He guessed it was one of them he heard before going down to the kitchen but he didn't catch a glimpse of them. Keann tried to hide it, but he was a little nervous about this meeting. Arien told him how protective her older brother was. And when he was not protective, he was playful. So, in Keann's mind, either the man will warn him he should not hurt his sister in any way or he'd tease the Arien for bringing a man home. Both possibilities were not to Keann's taste, being a nervous, shy person.
Besides, he knew nothing of Arien's intentions. Why had she thought of him anyway? Because they were friends? Because she thought he deserved vacations as well? Or could it be more...? Keann tried not to think about it but it was always on his mind. How would she react if he brings her a flower? If he stops more often at her shop simply to see her and bring her a meal? Keann knew she wouldn't mind and even be happy about it but would she understand the reasons behind it? Was he even able to understand the reasons?
It was with all that in mind that Keann noticed her mother was still staring at him. He grew a little nervous, gulping to hide it. She was still smiling to him. But he needed to find a diversion. He looked around the room. "It is a nice house you have." he said, trying to sound polite and not nervous at all.

God, it had been too long since she had been back home and enjoying herself like that without thinking about work one bit. It felt nice. It was even better now that Keann was there. She had thought of him, because he was the closest friend and man she knew in town and could trust when going back home in a ride. Of course, she was aware he wouldn’t be the best in self defence against thieves or any monsters but she could do the job. She didn’t mind.
Her mother began pulling her hair up, just when Keann walked in the room and both of them greeted him. He looked nervous, she didn’t get it why though. There was nothing scary about her family right? Well, maybe her brother but beside him, no one would want to intimidate Keann in any ways. By the way her mother was humming, she was too happy that she had brought a man to even think of doing anything. A silence appeared into the room, but it was soon broken by Keann who commented about their house.
"It is a nice house you have." Her mother chuckled slightly. “Why thank you, I don’t get that compliment often.” she mused, only to make Arien laugh lightly. She couldn’t help but speak up as well. “ You look so nervous, just relax, we won’t bite you.” she said, although a small smirk appeared onto her lips as she got an inner vision of her words. Silly thoughts. She shook her head a little and smiled up at her dear friend.
At the right moment, her sister, Olamwen returned in the kitchen dressed up in Arien’s dress and all prepared. First thing she noticed, Keann. She let out a small giggle. “Hello Mr. Lord, I’m Olamwen, nice to meet you.” she said with a small bow. It was unnecessary, but she couldn’t help it, he just looked so…easy to make panic and get shy.
“Sister told us you were quite skilled in Jewellery, do you have any sample of your work? I’d be curious to see.” she added going over to him. Arien smiled, looks like her sister ‘adopted’ him already. The only one missing was her brother, he was always lazy in morning, although, she knew he wouldn’t loose the chance to see the one she had brought home.

Keann blushed, lowering his gaze, as Arien teased him. Of course he knew they wouldn't bite him. But it was a little intimidating to meet her family, to be with her in a place and moment so... intimate. He wished the situation would not make him nervous but how could it not be so. Every time he was thinking about the reasons why she brought him to see her family, he was always going back to the idea it was because she might think of him as a very important, very close person. Was he the closest? This was enough to make any man nervous. Just a look at her mother made him understand she was thinking of him as a future son-in-law. She was seeing them together before that was even a possibility of reality.
Keann barely heard the thumping noise one makes while going down stairs. He noticed another girl was there only when she talked to him. He looked at this new face. Arien's sister for sure. She called herself Olamwen. She bowed in front of him. Keann frowned a little. He was not used to it but replied by bowing his head a little as well. Then he let himself look at her for a few seconds and analyze her.
She was as tall as Arien, with darker hair. Her eyes seemed rather dark as well, her lips full. She was a full grown-up woman and the dress she was wearing enhanced all of her best assets. It was one of Arien's dress he was certain of it. He could recognize her personal touch in it.
Olamwen decided to keep talking to him, asking if he had any sample of his work. He cleared his throat, digging into the pockets of his tunic. "I hum... I actually made this for you." he said, presenting a velvet tissue to Arien's mother. He pulled one side of it to show the bracelet it enclosed. It was a rather simple piece of work with Celtic knots. Only metal to it. Not knowing who or are the woman looked, he couldn't decide about a certain stone. So he chose a simple iron bracelet. The bracelet sure was simple but the work on the details was remarkable. He was blushing a little. He never told Arien of this gift he wanted to give her mother. It was his father who told him to make something to thanks the lady of the house. "In return of your hospitality." he said in a whisper.

"I hum... I actually made this for you."
The trio of girl stared at Keann as he talked, curious to see what he had brought to the older of the tree. Arien didn’t know that he had brought something for her own mother, she smiled; he was always nice and carrying. It was sad that people abused of him at times-he was such a nice man, no one should abuse people like him! She frowned at the thought but quickly recovered from it as she gazed at the piece off work, a bracelet, it sure was pretty!
Olamwen’s mouthed formed an ‘o’ as she looked at Keann’s work. “So pretty…” she mused glancing at her mother and sister. Arien’s mother smiled at the gift she had received, it was nothing-she would always accord hospitality to people that were close to her children…like a possible future son in law and this one, was certainly gaining point. Arien had sure made a good choice by picking someone like Keann to join her to come in her hometown.
She was happy and took the bracelet in her hands, studying every detail of it as she was holding the brush she used to do a hair style to Arien. “It is very beautiful, my daughter was right about you, an accomplished jeweller.” she said with a smile, this comment made Arien drift off a little, but still smiled at her close friend.
Olamwen pouted though, faking jealousy. “I’m sad, he brought something to mum…what about me?” she mused looking down at the male who was sitting down. “Sister, don’t ask him too much.” said a male voice that couldn’t be coming from anyone else but Arien’s brother, Owaen. The male smirked now able to fully see the newcomer. “So this is the boyfriend?” he asked aloud making Arien give her one of those looks. “I thought he would look tougher, it takes nerves to deal with a woman like Arien.” he said with a smirk. Olamwen decided to tag along with her twin. “Hush, you’ll scare him away…” This sure would be one of those days you wouldn’t forget…Arien blushed lightly, so light that only her mother could see it, and she chuckled silently at the view she was having. “Kids please.” said the lady.

Keann watched Arien's mother take the bracelet he made for her. The three girls were now gazing at it. Keann allowed his gaze to drift from the mother to the daughter, Arien. He had a very light smile seeing her reaction. She was amazed he thought of it and happy by it, or so he thought.
“It is very beautiful, my daughter was right about you, an accomplished jeweller.” the comment made Keann blush some. He mouthed a thank you. He was always a little embarrassed when someone was complimenting his work, but this time it was more than that. Because she also spoke of Arien and her thoughts about him. And the fact she thought he was good meant more for him than he ever realized or wanted to think.
Keann found himself shocked when Arien's sister pouted, wanting one too. he had completely forgotten about her sister and brother. Now, he felt terrible for it, even if she was certainly teasing. he simply couldn't see it that way. A male voice broke his thoughts though. Since Keann knew her father had died, he guessed it was the brother.
The brother in question appeared finally before him. “So this is the boyfriend?” Keann blushed even more. Boyfriend? As lovers? Keann was glad he was strong enough not to vanish at the mere thought. “I thought he would look tougher, it takes nerves to deal with a woman like Arien.” Keann lowered his head at the first part of the statement. As he expected, they were waiting for someone tougher, bigger, more manly. But the last comment made him raise his head. "Arien knows her value and won't accept a man unworthy of her. It doesn't need strength to be with her, it needs compassion, understanding and lots of love." he replied. Would they consider he was talking of himself, Keann was not even thinking about it. A good thing for if he had...

"Arien knows her value and won't accept a man unworthy of her. It doesn't need strength to be with her, it needs compassion, understanding and lots of love." Wow, that was a change of character for someone like Keann to say such things. Let’s look at the scene more closely. Arien sitting on a chair having a surprise look, her mother who is holding her new bracelet staring at him with a warm smile, happy that he indeed seemed to have a “thing” with her daughter and two twins staring at the possible new male of the family also having a surprised look, just not as much as Arien was.
Both of them smirked at those words. “Aw, isn’t it that cute! Arien’s first boyfriend!” mused Olamwen while ruffling Keann’s hair. Arien raised her head at her sister’s words. “He’s not my lover..” she tried objecting, the situation making her more and more embarrassed, which was also strange coming from a woman who wasn’t afraid to speak her words out.
Owaen rested a hand on Keann’s shoulder and opened her mouth at the same time of his twin, as if they were thinking about the same thing. Both of them sang in unison. “Keann and Arien sitting under a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G” Arien’s cheeks flushed a slightly darker shade of red, panic raising in her body. “CUT IT!” she said nervously.
If it wasn’t for her mother holding the brush, she would’ve taken it and thrown it at those two annoying little brats she had as siblings. “Kids, quiet now…enough teasing. Remember you have a few chores to do today.” Both of the twins laughed and winked at the two supposed to be lovers while Arien was glaring at them…or more like, death glaring.

Seeing the lack of reaction, or more the amazement he caused, Keann blushed some, feeling a little uncomfortable. Then the young lady added some. “Aw, isn’t it that cute! Arien’s first boyfriend!” Keann startled at it. "No we're not..." he said in the same time Arien tried to say the same thing. No, they were not lovers. He'd certainly know if he was with someone. And he was with no one, especially not Arien. His own embarrassment unable Keann to see Arien's.
Keann startled once again when Owaen placed his hand on his shoulder. He stared at the tall man. Somehow, Keann was scared of what he could say. And he was right about it for in unison the twins sang: “Keann and Arien sitting under a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G” Keann probably never was more red than on that moment. Perhaps because he actually never kissed her, or simply had the opportunity to. His reaction was one of an immature boy, to blush and remain quiet, embarrassed. But when it came to friendships, and even more love relations, Keann was more than immature, not knowing about it except from what he was seeing.
Keann refused to look as the twins laughed before leaving once their mother chased them. A nice gesture. Keann was now wondering why he came and started to regret it. He was giving her family the wrong impression. And he didn't want to try to stand up for what they seemed to think of him.

Arien was glad that her twin sibligs were gone-how embarrassing all of this was to her. It must be twice or three times embarrassing to her friend Keann who was naturally a shy man. She felt sorry for him, but that only meant that her siblings had accepted him. Normally they would just stare at the newcomer, tell him that they shouldn’t mess with her then leave but no, they were only teasing the man. She hoped it was a good thing, oh how hard she hoped about it.
Seeing the awkward silence that had spread around the room after the twins left, her mother decided to break it. “How as your shop been Arien darling?” her mother asked causally, making Arien light up at the question; she was a passionate worker after all! “Pretty good! Nobles even start looking at my shop which I am proud off! I’m having more sells recently since a dance is coming soon.” she said to her mother who nodded smiling at her daughter.
She then glanced at lord Keann. “Are you two going together as friends?” she asked deciding not to push the button about the fact that Arien had brought her first man home. “Probably! We’ll meet two good friends there too!” Arien said grinning. She glanced at Keann, hoping that she wasn’t ‘shocking him too much after the words she had said. “You wouldn’t mind to come with me won’t you?” she asked giving him soft eyes.

Keann kept his head low after the departure of her twins. What they said, he was so embarrassed about. To imply they were lovers, even more that they had kissed each other. Even in dreams, keann would not dare to think so. A lady as refined as Arien, how could she want a man like him. he was not a warrior nor a rich man. He wasn't able to talk without stuttering, he was blushing all the time. He acted more like a girl than her! No, he couldn't be meant for her.
When he heard her mother talk about a dance he didn't listen much. He knew of it, he had many orders for new jewels nobles wanted to show off during that dance. What made him startle though was when Arien said they might attend. Together. "Ar-are we?" he replied, surprised. He barely cared about the 'two friends' part. He had no idea which friends she was talking about since he felt she was his only friend. Then, as if it wasn't enough she asked him. “You wouldn’t mind to come with me won’t you?” Keann blushed. Could he really say no? With her soft tone and soft eyes gazing at him. With her mother nearby. He gulped, finding his mouth rather dry all of a sudden. "S-sure. I mean, it could be fun." he said, not even thinking about a major problem, more than the fact he had no gown: he did not know how to dance.

Then came the conversation about the dance, it would be quite fun in her opinion to hang out along with Gilwen and Faeldor; she wanted to see how close they really were those two. After all, she only had seen a preview of it at her shop, but she didn't see much about it though-she knew that Gilwen had a certain affection for the man and well, suspected the man to return her feelings, she just didn't know how ...far those two had been up to until now. Besides, her servant friend was probably as shy as her friend Keann, though probably less at the same time, but only a little less.
Arien continued to think about the subject, until Keann answer to her proposition in joining her at the dance. She did noticed he seemed to be a bit...well, caught of guard as she proposed him to come with her. It must be normal she figured for normally, men would be the ones asking girls out but with Keann, it seemed to be quite the opposite for she was most of the time, the one who was doing the first steps, not that she minded but it made her wonder about if he liked her or if he just felt forced about her and about if she was well, too demanding to the poor shy flee.
"S-sure. I mean, it could be fun." Arien's mother smiled and Arien sighed of relief though, that wasn't loud enough for any of them to hear it. She gace him a bright smile. "Good! You'll see, it will be fun!" she exclaimed happily.

Keann couldn't hide the fact a dance was making him a little... uncertain. After all, how can a man who never dance feel alright about bringing a girl to a dance, especially in front of some nobles. Alright, perhaps not the highest of nobility, but still in front of people who could easily make fun out of him. In front of clients.
Keann was still flattered that she asked him. For a second, he wondered if it was not because she had nobody else to ask to, or if she just wanted once again to make him come out of his shell. But no, surely it was not that. She knew him and bringing him to a dance was too demanding if it was to throw him amongst people.
Arien assured him they would have fun. He simply nodded loyally to it. It would be, wouldn't it? As long as no one starts to threaten them like that girl in Arien's shop. But then again, it was not the kind of things usually happening in dances, right? He looked up. He saw behind Arien's mother a window and through it their garden and the town. And the sun. It was a rather nice day. And it was easier to spot the window than the ladies before his eyes.

Arien was glad that she could’ve managed to bring Keann to the dance. Maybe it was odd for a lady to ask someone to keep them company at a dance but she didn’t care. Anyways, many people told her that she was more on the manly side. Even if it was a weird picture you could have in your mind, Keann being the girl and Arien being the boy.
Her mother finished doing her hair and she grabbed the mirror that was set on the table to look at herself, her mother had done a little ponytail and gave in a few curls to match with her already wavy hair. Lovely! Her mother was probably the only one who was allowed to do her hair-though she’d probably let Gilwen do that as well for she was her closest friend. She didn’t arrange herself that much either, only when she had to get the customers that needed a certain appearance and elegance to talk with, she would be more feminine.
She glanced out at the window once she had finished gazing at the wonderful work that her mother had done to her hair and smiled. “Why not taking Keann around town? I’m sure everyone will be happy to see you again Arien dear.” Mused her mother with a smile. Arien agreed to her suggestion. “Yes! I’m sure you’ll like the town, it’s calm and people are welcoming.” She assured him as she stood up. “Want to come?” She asked him hoping he would agree to her suggestion.
